Clark privacy policy
Effective November 3, 2026.
Who we are
Clark is an AI news editor made by Inward Journeys, Inc. Clark is free, invite-only, in English, for adults aged 18 or older, and available in the United States.
Questions about privacy, your account or this policy: support@readclark.com.
AI at Clark
Clark is an AI. It reads the news, picks stories for you and writes them in its own words. To do that, Clark shares what you tell it with AI services that work for us, such as OpenAI, Google and TypeSafe: your interests, the desks you pick, your answers, your reactions to stories and, if you choose a call, what you say on it. Each service gets only what its job needs. For example, Google turns a show's script into speech, and OpenAI helps write your stories.
A person doesn't check every story before you see it. Clark can make mistakes, so check the linked sources before relying on a story, and tell us about errors.
We also run Clark with the help of AI agents (Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's Codex) that operate our systems for us. They can see operational records, logs and support messages, and they work under the same rules as the rest of this policy.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, the sign-in method you use (email code, Apple or Google; Apple may give us a private relay address), your invitation, and sign-in sessions.
- Your news profile: the desks you pick, your interests, your city, when you like your news, how you like it (read or listen), and anything else you tell Clark when you join. Please don't share sensitive personal details you don't want used to choose your news.
- Your activity: the stories Clark shows you, your answers to them, the shows you ask for and play, and your ratings.
- A call, if you choose one: if you talk to Clark instead of typing, Google's AI listens and transcribes the call. Clark keeps the transcript, not the recording.
- Messages to us: emails to support and feedback you send.
- Technical information: your device model, iOS and app version, a notification token if you turn notifications on, and crash and performance reports (see Sentry below).
Your location, only if you ask: if you tap "Use my location", your iPhone uses Apple's location service to work out your city once. We keep only the city you confirm, never your coordinates. Clark never asks for location in the background.
Why we use it
We use your information to sign you in, check your invitation, learn what news matters to you, choose and write your stories and shows, send the notifications you turn on, answer you when you write to us, find and fix problems, and keep Clark safe. Choosing your stories is automatic and follows your profile and answers; it isn't a complete view of the news.
Your data is never sold
We don't sell your data, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Services that help run Clark
- Sign-in: Supabase runs our sign-in. Apple and Google run their own sign-in methods.
- Where your data lives: Clark's database is hosted by Railway in the United States, with backups stored by Cloudflare.
- Email: Resend sends sign-in and account email from mail.readclark.com, with no open or click tracking. Emails you send to support@readclark.com are received through Google Workspace.
- Notifications and app updates: Expo delivers notifications, through Apple's notification service, and delivers app updates.
- Crash reports: Sentry receives crash and performance reports so we can fix problems. They don't include your name, email or what you tell Clark.
- AI services: OpenAI, Google and TypeSafe, as described in AI at Clark.
- News search: news search services may receive search terms based on your interests or places, never your name or email.
- This website: Vercel hosts readclark.com.
Links and pictures in stories can make your phone contact a publisher's site, which gets ordinary connection information under its own policy.
We may share information if the law requires it, or to stop fraud or a threat to someone's safety. If Clark is ever sold or merged, we'll tell you about any change to how your data is used.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active and only as long as we need it to run Clark. When you delete your account, everything is removed as described below.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account any time in the app: Settings → Delete account (or "Delete my account" before you accept). Deleting your account stops your news and notifications, signs you out everywhere, and removes your data from Clark's systems, including our backups, within 30 days. The services that process data for us (listed above) delete their copies under their own retention terms.
You can also ask us to delete your account, or for a copy or correction of your information, at support@readclark.com, including if you can't sign in. We may ask you to confirm the account is yours.
- Deleting the app from your phone doesn't delete your account.
- Your Apple or Google account isn't affected.
- Clark shares its sign-in service with Inward, its sister app. If you had an Inward account before joining Clark, deleting Clark removes your Clark data and keeps your Inward account.
- If you were an early tester on Telegram, your old messages stay in Telegram. We delete our copies, except a few records in our private code history, which we remove in a one-time cleanup.
Security
Only the people and services that need your information can reach it, and we protect sign-in and stored data. No service can promise perfect security.
Children
Clark is for people aged 18 or older. If you think a child has given us information, tell us and we'll remove it.
This website and changes
readclark.com has no analytics, ad trackers, outside scripts or outside fonts. Our host keeps ordinary access logs.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app before the change applies. See our terms and support page.
